"EXPIRED MEAT"

MEAT "Fresh Worked" Over in Semifinals

    by Teddy Cobretti

The Fighting Blue Knights of Team MEAT saw their season came to an end this past Sunday at Torresdale's clubhouse field.  Fresh Works handed the Blue and Gold two losses in a best-of-three series that left many onlookers shocked.  MEAT could not answer the Fresh Works' offensive barrage and frustration overwhelmed the team during the ninety degree heat games.

Solid overall play spurred Fresh Works onto victory as MEAT displayed some uncharacteristic disharmony in the losses.  MEAT's usual positive attitude was not present during the series, and it showed on the field, especially defensively.  MEAT captain Neil Carr promised that this was an aberration during the postgame press conference.  "What you saw today was not what we're about.  MEAT is not going to be remembered in the annals of softball lore as primadonnas.  We will not repeat that nonsensical behavior again.  We will be back..."

MEAT returns to action Aug. 12th at the prestigious M.I.T. "V".  The location is the Torresdale fields and the time is 8:30am (check the website at  www.meattournament.freeservers.com ).  After the tournament, MEAT will appear in the "Bill Jones Softball League",beginning Aug. 27th,  which is played on Sunday mornings at fields in N.E. Phila.  Check the site for news and updates on your favorite pastime practitioners.

MEAT would like to thank WHISL Commissioner Kenn Kucinski on an outstanding job in running the league.  As predicted by all that know him, Kenn did superb in the WHISL's inaugural season. Kenn brought back the fun in Sunday night softball, and all that played respect the hell out of him for doing so.  MEAT pitcher Jim McDonald helped Kenn with securing the fields.  Great job, lads!

Some facts and tidbits of info on MEAT's spring / summer season along with questions for the future:

Rumors abound that Buddy Pollock, who left the games abruptly Sunday to go to New York, was part of the Bobby Abreu deal with the Yankees.  Pollock's agent, Matthew Gliwa, did not respond to calls for comment.

How will MEAT fare in their tournament this year?  Will the real squad show up, or will the team act like the sour pusses who played this past Sunday?

The hottest hitters on MEAT are Brian Hamill, Eric Povernick, Rich Dingas, Al Curtis and June Bug McCaffrey.  Will these warriors continue their brillance in the Sunday morning league?  And can the rest of MEAT resume their dominant ways?

Can Carr and McDonald "make it rain" in the "unlimited" style of pitching featured in the Bill Jones league? One has to feel that the two seasoned and cagey vets can indeed "bring the precipitation" to the diamonds.

Will MEAT's bulked up roster in the morning league propel the boys in blue onto bigger and better things? MEAT has added Kenn Kucinski, Ryan Klein, Ed Drea and possibly more players to aid in the tough-to-attend-for-some-guys morning double headers...

These questions and more will be answered soon.  Tune in and watch the Fighting Men of MEAT...

Bible Quote of the Week

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby,
keeping watch of their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them,
and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid.
I bring you good news of great joy that will for all the people.
Today in the town of the Illidelph a Savior has been born to you; he is Double Day Dingas the Lord and creator of Team MEAT.

Luke 2:8-11
